In my experience, websites with real human photos convert far better than those with illustrations.

People connect with people. Seeing a face builds trust and relatability, and these are the two things that matter a lot when someone is deciding whether to take action on your site.

For example, VWO ran an A/B test for Medalia Art, a platform that sells Brazilian and Caribbean art. They swapped out paintings for photos of the artists, and the results were wild. The conversion rate jumped from 8.8% to 17.2%. That’s a 95% increase just by showing real faces.

If you don't have sufficient traffic, clear hypotheses, defined success metrics, and the statistical discipline to wait for valid results, no tool — regardless of how expensive or sophisticated — will help you. Experimentation Intelligence - Notes on 2 days of looking up experiment data on experiments:

- 23 reports + a dozen or so competitor reports
- Tools we've been able to detect: Adobe, Optimizely, Convert, VWO, SiteSpect, Eppo, Statsig, 1 custom A/B testing tool + a few more
- Some tools are easier to detect, parse, and report on than others (shocker)
- Some tools have evasive masking, which helps but not a lot
- A lot of sites are running useless experiments (another shocker)
- A lot of sites are "faking" experimentation and running 1-2 experiments
- A few sites are running 20+ experiments
- The average seems to be around 2-3 experiments, which is far too little for most
- Longest running analysis was just over 58 minutes
- Spoofing 3rd party requests is fun and useful for revealing the full experimentation list
- Quite a few logos on vendor/tool websites are no longer actually using their services
- Some brands are using experimentation tools in unexpected ways, for example to "bribe" visitors into leaving G2 reviews
- A lot of brands are using experimentation tools as makeshift CMSs (I've written about this before, but confirming it with unrelated sites is nice)
- Not enough brands are experimenting on pricing
- Too many are running "stupid" experiments on the homepage (shocker number 3)
- There is a certain agency that really likes to "brand" their experiments in experiment names, assets, etc.
- Multi-country and/or multinational companies are fascinating to explore, and a lot harder to scan for experiments

Limitations:
- Snapshots: all of these reports are current snapshots, which, although revealing, capture only a single moment in time
- Accurate but not all-seeing: there are certain technical limitations, especially around geo/location targeting, which can be tackled with more resources and by re-architecting parts of the app
- Technical challenges around custom platforms and/or enterprise implementations

By itself, this data isn't very useful.
Kind of like Bounce Rate in the old Google Analytics days.
It only seems like it means a lot, but not really.

However, I'm already working on v2... expanding to 10+ new features.

When you start tying all of this together with data from different sources:
